The sketch below is that of a robotic 'cow', and a working version was presented at the 1933 World's Fair. It was created by the Messmore and Damon, a shop based out of New York that specialized in mechanical animals.
Robots have greatly improved since 1933 and many new companies have had some great advances of late. I heard talks there is a company called SKYNET that is making some headwary with microchips and such with talks about computers with genuine A.I. There's talk the Air Force might purchase the company though, which might be a real bummer...
